Services

Compass coaching offers a range of personal development, healing and growth services to guide people to self empowerment and discovering their full potential. We draw on various modalities and techniques to provide personalised coaching, counselling and workshops.

Coaching

At Compass Coaching, coaching is about facilitating change for the better.

At Compass Coaching, we help individuals move from where they are, to where they want to be. And if they don’t know where they want to be, coaching helps them gain clarity. In practical terms, we help them set goals, strategies and action plans, and achieve them.

Just like a sports coach, we keep you on track by holding you accountable and keeping you focused in a regular and supportive way. In this way, you can be the best you want to be.

We encourage everyone to live proactively instead of reactively - to find you own answers and make you own decisions. Along the way we pull you up and cheer you on too!

Who uses coaching?

Life coaching or transpersonal coaching can help anyone who wants change in their life. Some people know exactly what change they want but don’t know how to make it happen. Others feel discontent, stagnant or stuck and need help to move forward. Others may feel overwhelmed by an important decision in their career, relationship or family life. The common thread is that they are ready to change and they just want some support in making it happen.

When can people use coaching?

- When they are deciding on career change, going for a new job
- When they need clarity in one or more parts of their lives
- When they want to improve their life condition – work, personal, emotional, psychological, financial - When they are at cross roads, going through life transition or crisis
- Most of all when they want support from an impartial person who would have their wellbeing (the      client’s) as the focal point

Counselling

At Compass Coaching, counselling is about facilitating individuals in their healing and growth.

For some, counselling is centered around gaining greater self awareness and accessing their inner resources to help them through a difficult period or a challenge, for others it’s about finding their personal meaning and purpose in life and their path to self actualization.

We facilitate you in your search for your own answers, by tapping into your potential. We provide a safe space for self exploration, expression and discovery with a view to finding self empowering ways to handle life challenges and reach your full potential.

It is a partnership. Together, we travel through your internal landscape. You are in control of your own journey and destination; we assist by holding up your compass while you navigate through the terrain of life.

When can people use counseling?

- When they are feeling sad or depressed or overwhelmed
- When they are facing a problem in their life or at cross roads – work or personal, wanting clarity
- When they are going through life transition and crisis, wanting support from an impartial person        who would have their well being as the focal point, wanting a deeper understanding of themselves    and their life situation
- When they are seeking deeper meaning and purpose of their life
- When they are ready to heal and grow

Five Element Qi Gong for beginners (Group or private class)

The benefits of Qi Gong are far reaching. When practiced regularly and appropriately, it improves your physical, mental, emotional, energetic and spiritual health. It is a form of active meditation that synchronizes movement with breath.

There are many forms of Qi Gong. The Five Element Qi Gong is developed by Master Liu De Ming of Zi Ran Men Kung Fu Academy. The philosophy of Five Element Qi Gong is about living harmoniously with nature. We’re all creatures of nature and subject to its law. If we live in harmony with nature, we can have a healthy and peaceful life.

In Taoism, it is believed that the universe contains five fundamental elements – Metal, Water, Wood, Fire and Earth. Each gives rise to another, thereby creating the circle of life. They are associated with the four seasons in nature.

The five elements also correspond to the main organs and meridians of the body – Lung, Kidney, Liver, Fire, Heart and Spleen. Five Element Qi Gong aims to harmonize and balance these five organs and meridians and promote overall health.

It is a simple and easy to learn form of Qi Gong which allows you to practice on your own after the 6 weeks course. It is suitable for beginners with all level of fitness and for ages 18 and above.

Meditation

Regular meditation practice helps increase self awareness and improves clarity of mind.

It is suitable for people who want to seek greater awareness for self development and people who want to be more centered and have better clarity to handle their busy active lives.

Most people find it difficult to be disciplined enough to schedule time to do the meditation that they need on their own. Coming to a regular group ensures that regularity and helps instill the habit. Meditation in a group also allows you to experience the special group energy that may not be attained when you meditate on your own.

The meditation group at Compass Coaching is suitable for beginners. You will be guided and all you need to do is relax and enjoy the moments of stillness.

Class venue, date and time: TBA & on request

More on Dream Group

"Last night I had the strangest dream. I wonder what it could mean?"

Have you ever felt that or have that crossed your intrigued mind?

Come and explore your dreams in a facilitated, safe and sacred space.

In a Dream Group we explore messages from our dreams. Often these messages can be related to an area (or more) of the dreamer's life and provide insightful options and choices in dealing with that area of the life, at the very least, it brings about awareness. Awareness is the first step to change and growth. Sometimes more insights come along a few weeks/months after sharing the dream.

Facilitated by Abby, each participant gets to explore and share one of their dreams in turn. Everyone is encouraged to keep a dream journal and bring it with them to the sessions.

The technique used is predominantly the Ullman's dream process. We explore the symbols and images of the dream as a group. As Carl Jung says "Images are the messages of the soul". We don't interpret or tell the dreamer what it means. The dreamer derives the meaning and messages for themselves which is more empowering.

It is a sacred and safe space for all of us in a small committed group. Confidentiality is important and honoured and it's up to the dreamer to share as much or as little as they want to in the sessions. We are there to support each other's journey.

More on Five Element Qi Gong

There are many forms/styles of Qi Gong and the benefits of Qi Gong in general are many, where do I begin?! In addition to what’s already mentioned above, I’ll add the following.

It is a form of meditation. It has been a common perception in the pass that meditation involves sitting still in a lotus position for hours. That’s only one form of meditation, one of the ‘passive meditation’ methods to be precise. The other major form of meditation is ‘active meditation’ which usually involves movement and Qi Gong is one of them. But it is more than just a form of meditation.

As the word Qi (also known as Chi or Ki) indicates it emphasizes on the circulation of Qi. Qi means life force, energy and vitality. Without Qi, there is no life. Qi flows through the meridian channels in our body. When we improve, strengthen, balance and harmonize our Qi meridians, our overall health improves. By health I mean physical, emotional, mental, energetic and spiritual health. It is a practice that involves and synchronizes the mind intent, movement and breath. Internal work combined with external movement.

In TCM (Traditional Chinese Medicine) and Taoism practice, it is believed that many illnesses of the body and mind are caused by stagnation or blockage of Qi flow/circulation.

Some of the benefits of Qi Gong are:

    - Improves posture

    - Balances our central nervous system

    - Improves emotional state

    - Improves joints mobility, tendon strength, muscles and Qi circulation

    - Improves mental clarity

How long does it take to practice each day to master it? Well, how long is a piece of string?

Qi Gong is one of those practices that is a process, a journey. It’s not a quick fix like some modalities claim to be. It is a way of life. It is daily nourishment. How often do you need to eat in order to fuel your body for optimum functioning? It work on the philosophy of prevention rather than cure.

As with any training, the secret lies not only in the learning of it, but more in the application (daily practice) of it.

The Five Element Qi Gong is a relatively simple ‘form’, suitable for beginners. It’s very gentle and suitable for all ages and fitness level. It’s like an exercise that involves standing and movement of various parts of our body. The form/steps can be learnt and memorized in 6 weeks, provided you do home practice in between and depending on individual. You can then practice at home on your own or continue to practice in group classes. The actual form can be completed in 15 – 20 min but it’s advisable to do the warm up exercises and standing meditation in order to get the full benefit.

The mastering of it is a totally different story. Mastering is beyond being able to do the steps and movement of the form fluently and beautifully. It’s in the intricacy of the combination of mind intent, movement and breath, it’s the flow of Qi expressed in motion.  It looks simple and gentle from the outside but the benefit and effect of it can be powerful if practiced correctly and appropriately.

Once you're familiar with the Five Element Qi Gong, there are many other forms of Qi Gong and Tai Chi that you can take on and advance to if you wish. Or you can just stick to one form for ‘general maintenance’ and deepening further within it.
